Human Biology

I hate Biology, well actually I used to love biology until this year...

Reasons why I hate Biology (stated in RESPECTFUL way):

**disclaimer: I have not, until now been so angry and frustrated about a class I have had...every other class thus far has challenged me intellectually and spiritually in some way or another, led by a professor who WANTS to see you succeed**

1. A certain professor who makes you feel stupid in front of the entire class when you ask a legitimate question and then you are too afraid to ask a question even if you really don't understand.

2. A certain professor who makes things even more confusing than they really are.

3. A terrible textbook chosen by a certain professor that makes everything more confusing rather than clarifying its contents.

4. I read chapter 2 twice and filled out the study guide, then I studied for a quiz and still got a 70% because the questions are worded horribly by a certain professor who when asked about the wording, simply replied that it's not his fault...

lets see, all of these reasons have one common denominator: A professor who really shouldn't be teaching a biology class but still does. Now, there may be a few students who have earned an "A" in this biology class, but I sure have NEVER heard of them.

If I get a bad grade on this exam coming up even after studying hard and preparing well, I am dropping this class and taking it at another school.

THE END.

WELP. I already made my monthly trip to Blacksburg and it was faaabulous. My brother is doing well and he seems to really like it at Tech so that made me happy. I got to see the love of my life, Zolaikha Afzal too :) aaand her dad got me a black quilted leather Marc Jacobs clutch! The weekend was great, I had some time alone to listen to music and just think about stuff, which I haven't done in a while. It's been super busy ever since I got here and I imagine it will only get busier as the semester goes on.

Soccer is great minus my shins breaking. We won our first game and I made the first goal, which wasn't really that awesome because I just crashed the goal after someone else failed at a goal attempt and somehow my shot went in..but I do love the girls on the team and I think its gonna be a great season.

as for classes, they are okay..not the best lineup i've had but it will do.

I have already begun to distance myself from people since I know I will be leaving soon. Its a defense mechanism I acquired sometime during my upbringing. I am not proud of it, but I must say it works quite well.

I also saw an AMAZING movie called Brideshead Revisited...and contrary to what it may seem, it is not a horror movie. I can't even describe it but the filming was beautiful as were the costumes and scenery. I loooved it and you should go see it!!!

aaaand I'm going home in two weeks for Brett's wedding which I'm pretty excited about :)

well that's my update for a while...

Now the joy of my world is in Zion.

I miss my home, my family, and friends A LOT. This summer was soooooooo great. I was really really upset when I was driving here...i think I cried for 15 solid minutes. I know, lame right? And now I am tearing up just thinking about it. I like it here a lot but this summer I got so close to everyone, me and my dad had our ups and downs but we worked it out and he called me the other day from work and told me that he already misses having me around. I got super close to Ashley this summer too and I didn't want to leave since we are both about 12 hours away from each other. Kristin isn't gonna be here this semester so I have no one from Fairfax to relate to :( And Zolo is gonna move to NYC after graduation so I will be far away from her too. I do have my dani boi and Betsy of course and for that I am thankful!!! It's just difficult to move on to a different phase of your life when you weren't ready to leave the one previous. I am excited to see what this semester brings, I just wish I could have had another month at home to tie off loose ends.

In other news, 4 Johnson students were in a car wreck. They were all on the soccer teams it was two boys and two girls. I felt so horrible becuase 3 out of the 4 are freshman...what a way to spend your first week. They are all in the hospital and I think they will be okay, praise God. But we are still praying. The two girls are great and they were so much fun to have on the team. It's scary but nothing is promised in this life aside from God. I sure hope something good comes from all this. I feel like accidents happen all too often here :(

08.08.08

welp, the opening ceremony for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing was absolutely incredible. I understand that it was very costly and we could have fed many starving children with that money, (and I am in no way undermining the importance of such things) but lets focus on the positives shall we? I'm sure that the ceremony brought many people joy, honor, and perhaps a renewed sense of pride in their country. The Olympic games bring so much more than simple enjoyment through sporting events. It is a melting pot. Countries come together, putting aside differences to participate in the age old event. I know that personally I have given in to the pessimistic attitude toward the United States. Although we are no where near perfect and are an extreeeemely young country, I do have pride in my country. Every country is corrupt in some way, but I do thank God that I live in a country that allows me pretty much any opportunity I allow myself rise to. (I'm not sure that is a real sentence haha). But really, I was proud of the United States when they entered the ceremony tonight or rather yesterday given that China is ahead. I also think it is amazing how far China has come in the past few decades. They were essentially closed off and now, in 2008, they are hosting the 2008 Olympic games which are a symbol of peace for many. In addition, North and South Korea actually deliberated about representing themselves as one united country...although they will compete separately, I do believe its a step in the right direction!

well, if you didn't already catch my drift..I love the Olympics. I am real excited about gymnastics and beach volleyball :)

RANDOM p.s.--one thing i have learned as of recently is that i am not fond of people who make themselves different for the sake of being different (obviously if you just ARE different, this message does not apply)...but if you honestly like mainstream music and movies or love the same clothes that everyone else wears then don't change yourself just to be different. I think for example, people who are "liberal" or "conservative" simply because they don't want to follow the crowd have no backbone and for them I have no tolerance. Do what you do because thats who you are even if that means that you are like everyone else. If you like Starbucks like every other person on this earth then go to Starbucks dang it!! But i guess on the other end of the spectrum if you reaaally want to be different just to say that you are different, then who am I to disagree. Just don't make fun of people who mainstream if thats who they are :)

THE END.
